Main contents of hotel fire protection inspection: water pressure test, linkage test, alarm test

I am fire protection expert Alexander Li. As a high-occupancy venue, a hotel's fire protection system testing is a critical step in ensuring life safety and property protection. The water pressure test, linkage test, and alarm test you mentioned are the three core elements of fire protection system acceptance and annual testing, and are directly related to the reliability and effectiveness of the system in the event of a fire. Below, I will combine GB50016 "Code for Fire Protection Design of Buildings", GB50261 "Code for Construction and Acceptance of Sprinkler Systems" and GB50116 "Code for Design of Automatic Fire Alarm Systems" and other standards to analyze in detail the specific content, implementation points, and engineering experience of these tests.

1. Water Pressure Test

The water pressure test mainly targets the hydrant system and the automatic sprinkler system, and is intended to verify the strength and tightness of the piping network. According to Article 5.2.1 of GB50261-2017, the strength test pressure shall be 1.5 times the design pressure and not less than 0.6 MPa; the tightness test pressure shall be the design pressure. In a hotel project, I once encountered a case: during the annual testing of a five-star hotel, the water pressure at the end test valve was insufficient. After investigation, it was found that the valve on the outlet pipe of the roof water tank was not fully open, causing the system static pressure to be lower than 0.15 MPa (Article 8.1.4 of GB50016 stipulates that the static pressure of the hydrant system in high-rise buildings shall not be lower than 0.15 MPa). By readjusting the valve and testing, the system pressure was ensured to meet the standard. In actual engineering, the following points must be noted during testing: - Hydrant system: check the effective water column of the hydrant at the most unfavorable point (for high-rise buildings it shall not be less than 10 m, Article 8.4.3 of GB50016); - Sprinkler system: test the pressure at the end test valve (shall not be lower than 0.05 MPa), and record the actuation of the pressure switch of the wet alarm valve assembly.

2. Linkage Test

The linkage test verifies whether the various components of the fire protection system (such as fire alarm, hydrant pump, sprinkler pump, smoke control and exhaust fans, fire shutter, etc.) are linked according to the preset logic when triggered by a fire signal. According to Article 4.1.1 of GB50116-2013, linkage control shall achieve: - When a fire detector alarms, automatically start the audible and visual alarm, cut off non-fire power supply, and start emergency lighting; - When a hydrant button or sprinkler pressure switch actuates, automatically start the fire water pump. In a hotel renovation project I participated in, the linkage test found that the smoke control and exhaust fans failed to link with the fire alarm, because the wiring of the control module was loose. After rewiring and testing, the requirements of Article 8.5.1 of GB50016 regarding linkage of the smoke control and exhaust system were met. During testing, the following must be checked: - Fire water pump startup time (shall not exceed 2 minutes, Article 8.0.6 of GB50261); - After the smoke control and exhaust fans start, whether the air duct velocity meets the standard (e.g., the smoke exhaust outlet velocity shall not exceed 10 m/s).

3. Alarm Test

The alarm test mainly targets the automatic fire alarm system, including the sensitivity and response time of detectors, manual alarm buttons, audible and visual alarms, and other equipment. According to Article 6.2.1 of GB50116-2013, detector installation positions shall avoid obstruction, and the response time shall not exceed 30 seconds. In a hotel lobby, I once encountered a case: a smoke detector produced a false alarm due to accumulated decoration dust, and returned to normal after cleaning. The test content includes: - Use standard smoke to test smoke detectors; - Use a heat source to test heat detectors; - After a manual alarm button is pressed, the alarm signal shall be transmitted to the fire control room within 10 seconds (Article 4.2.1 of GB50116). In addition, audible and visual alarms shall ensure a sound pressure level of not less than 60 dB (Article 4.8.1 of GB50116).

Actual Engineering Case

In the acceptance testing of a high-rise hotel, we conducted comprehensive testing: the water pressure test found a leakage point in the basement sprinkler piping, which passed after repair; during the linkage test, the fire shutter failed to descend automatically due to a control module fault, and returned to normal after replacement; in the alarm test, a smoke detector responded with delay and met the standard after position adjustment. These experiences show that regular testing can effectively prevent system failures.

Summary: The water pressure test, linkage test, and alarm test are the three pillars of hotel fire safety, verifying system strength, logic linkage, and detection reliability respectively. Strict implementation in accordance with GB50261 and GB50116 standards can ensure that the system performs its intended function in the event of a fire.

The above are reference opinions. The actual project situation still needs to be further comprehensively evaluated and implemented in combination with specific operating conditions, site conditions, and other factors.
