International Standard Equipment Selection and Configuration Guide

International standards Updated 2026-04-25 1 views

Provide hotel MEP equipment selection methods and configuration recommendations under international standard systems, based on ASHRAE standards and brand requirements, balancing performance, economy and O&M.

International Brand Chiller Selection Requirements

International brands have strict standards for chiller selection. Marriott MIDS requirements: centrifugal chillers with full-load COP not less than 6.3, IPLV not less than 10.5; refrigerant GWP not exceeding 700; motor efficiency not less than IE3; condenser water-side pressure drop not exceeding 10 psi (approx. 69 kPa); evaporator water-side pressure drop not exceeding 8 psi (approx. 55 kPa). Hilton HDDG requirements: COP not less than 6.0, IPLV not less than 12.0; compressors using brushless permanent magnet synchronous motors or magnetic bearing technology. Brand standards also require third-party performance verification reports (such as AHRI certification) to prove that actual unit performance parameters meet nominal values. Selection process: Step 1: Determine design cooling load and annual load distribution curve based on 8760-hour full-year dynamic energy consumption simulation. Step 2: Select the number of units and capacity ratio so that unit operating time in the 50%-75% load ratio range accounts for no less than 65% (hotel annual load distribution characteristic). Step 3: Verify unit operating stability at minimum load ratio (typically 25%-30%) to avoid frequent start-stop. Step 4: Evaluate the impact of cooling water temperature variation on unit COP and select the optimal cooling water temperature setpoint strategy. Step 5: Evaluate unit noise data to ensure noise at 1 m from the unit does not exceed 95 dB(A), and confirm through building acoustics calculation that there is no impact on guest rooms.

International Standard Terminal Equipment Selection

International brands have detailed requirements for terminal equipment selection. FCU (fan coil unit) selection standards: air volume calculated based on room load and air change rate; standard room (36-40 m2) selection air volume approx. 400-500 CFM (680-850 m3/h); EC motor standard with 0-10V speed control, noise not exceeding 28 dB(A) (at 1.5 m from unit); four-pipe coil with independent cooling and heating control. AHU selection standards: large air volume AHU (greater than 20000 CFM) recommended with dual-fan dual-coil arrangement; filtration configuration MERV13 (F7) + activated carbon section; fan efficiency not less than NEMA Premium standard; AHU casing must meet SMACNA Class A sealing requirements with leakage rate not exceeding 1%. PAU selection standards: equipped with total heat recovery (Enthalpy Wheel) with total heat efficiency not less than 75%, or plate sensible heat recovery efficiency not less than 70%; equipped with bypass air damper for free cooling in transition seasons; equipped with UV-C ultraviolet lamps to inhibit coil bacterial growth. Brand standards also require all terminal equipment to provide AHRI certification reports, and noise data must be issued by third-party acoustic laboratories. Selection margin control: brand standards require equipment selection at 100%-105% of design load, with margins exceeding 110% not permitted, to avoid long-term low-load operation of terminal equipment affecting dehumidification performance.

International Standard Power Supply and Distribution Equipment Selection

International brands' requirements for power supply and distribution equipment selection cover transformers, generators, UPS and distribution cabinets. Transformers: dry-type transformers (ANSI/IEEE C57.12.01 standard) with energy efficiency grade not less than DOE 2016 Efficiency (US energy efficiency standard, equivalent to China's SCB13 grade). K-factor transformers (K-13 or K-20) are recommended to withstand harmonic currents generated by nonlinear loads. Generators: per NFPA 110 standard Level 2 emergency power supply, automatic start within 10 seconds, load capacity meeting fire protection and life safety loads. Marriott requires 72-hour continuous operation fuel reserve. UPS: per NFPA 111 standard, online double conversion type with efficiency not less than 96% (ECO mode). Lithium battery UPS recommended to replace lead-acid batteries, saving approximately 60% floor space and achieving 5000 cycle life. Distribution cabinets: compliant with UL 891 (low voltage) or UL 1558 (low voltage high capacity) standards, branch circuits with no less than 20% spare positions reserved. Cables: THHN/THWN cables compliant with UL 83 or UL 1277 standards, ampacity calculated per NEC tables, ambient temperature correction based on 40 degree reference.

International Brand Fire Protection and Plumbing Equipment Selection

Fire protection equipment: sprinkler system designed per NFPA 13, sprinklers using quick response type (K-factor 5.6 or 8.0), coverage per Light Hazard standard not exceeding 225 ft2 (approx. 20.9 m2) per sprinkler. Fire pumps designed per NFPA 20 standard, electric or diesel driven, equipped with automatic test systems. Standpipe system per NFPA 14 standard, standpipe flow not less than 500 GPM (approx. 31.5 L/s), pressure at most remote point not less than 65 psi (approx. 0.45 MPa), stricter than the national standard of 35 psi (0.24 MPa). Plumbing equipment: domestic water pumps selected per ASPE standards and IPC plumbing code, using variable frequency drive. Hot water system designed per ASHRAE Handbook requirements, ensuring outlet temperature at the farthest point not less than 120F (49 degrees) and return circulation temperature not less than 110F (43 degrees). Water treatment systems: cooling water controlled per ASHRAE Guideline 12-2020 for Legionella risk—cooling water temperature not less than 68 degrees or chemical disinfection; domestic hot water storage tank temperature not less than 60 degrees with weekly high-temperature disinfection. Hot water pipe insulation per ASHRAE 90.1 standard minimum thickness requirements (20%-30% higher than national standard).
