Structured cabling system design and testing standards

Weak-current intelligent systems Updated 2026-04-25 0 views

Elaborate in detail on the design principles, product selection, installation specifications, and testing and acceptance procedures of the structured cabling system based on the TIA 568 and GB50311 standards, …

1. Design Principles and Standards System for Structured Cabling Systems

The structured cabling system is the fundamental physical transmission layer for intelligent weak-current systems, designed in accordance with TIA/EIA-568-C and GB 50311-2016. The system adopts a star topology, divided into six parts: work area subsystem, horizontal subsystem, vertical backbone subsystem, equipment room subsystem, administration subsystem, and campus subsystem. Hotel projects typically use Category 6 unshielded twisted pair as the horizontal transmission medium, and the vertical backbone adopts a redundant design principle of single-mode 10-gigabit optical fiber combined with multi-core large-pair-count copper cable, ensuring bandwidth requirements for the next 15-20 years.

2. Product Selection and Performance Specification Requirements

Structured cabling product selection must meet the requirements of TIA-568-C.2 and ISO/IEC 11801:2017 Class EA standards. Key performance indicators include insertion loss, return loss, near-end crosstalk, far-end crosstalk, and attenuation-to-crosstalk ratio. For hotel projects, Category 6 or Category 6A systems are recommended, with channel bandwidth of 250 MHz for Category 6 or 500 MHz for Category 6A, supporting 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T network transmission. Patch panels are recommended to use modular tool-less termination design, faceplates shall use 45-degree angled dust-proof type, and patch cords shall use factory-made original patch cords.

3. Construction Techniques and Quality Control Key Points

Structured cabling construction must strictly follow GB 50312-2016 "Code for Acceptance of Structured Cabling System Engineering." Key construction control points: before cable installation, conduct route verification and conduit diameter confirmation, with conduit fill ratio not exceeding 40%; cable laying shall avoid right-angle bends and compression, with bending radius not less than 4 times the cable outer diameter (approximately 25 mm for Category 6 cables); reserve lengths at both ends of cables — 3-5 meters at the patch panel side and 0.3-0.5 meters at the information faceplate side; termination shall use T568B wiring scheme, with untwisting length not exceeding 13 mm; cable bundling spacing shall not exceed 1.5 meters using nylon cable ties but must not be over-tightened.

4. Testing Standards and Acceptance Procedures

Structured cabling testing is based on TIA-568-C.2 and GB 50312-2016 standards, divided into three categories of testing: continuity testing (verification testing); performance testing (certification testing requiring full-parameter testing of NEXT, RL, IL, PSNEXT, PSACRF, etc.); fiber optic testing using OTDR testing and light source/optical power meter testing (including attenuation and return loss). The acceptance procedure includes review of as-built documentation, on-site sampling inspection of no less than 10%, system functional testing, and administration labeling confirmation. Hotel projects require particular attention to performance verification of wireless AP locations, IPTV network, and video surveillance network.
