Elevator Engineering Equipment Selection and Configuration Guide

Elevator engineering Updated 2026-04-25 0 views

Hotel elevator equipment selection and configuration is a key decision affecting building investment and operational efficiency. Selection should be comprehensively evaluated across five dimensions: operating …

Traction Machine and Drive System Selection

The traction machine and drive system are the core components of an elevator, and their selection directly affects the elevator's energy consumption, noise, and service life. Selection points: (1) Permanent magnet synchronous gearless traction machine: suitable for medium- and high-speed elevators (speed ≥1.75m/s), featuring high efficiency (92%-95%), compact size (can be installed within the hoistway), low noise (<55dB), and maintenance-free operation (no gearbox lubricating oil). For a PM traction machine with a load capacity of 1600kg and a speed of 2.5m/s, the motor power is approximately 11-15kW. Recommended brands: KONE (Finland), Mondo (Germany), Wittur (Switzerland); (2) Asynchronous motor + worm gear reducer: suitable for low-speed elevators (≤1.75m/s) or retrofit projects (utilizing the existing hoistway). Lower efficiency (75%-85%), requiring periodic lubricating oil replacement. Low initial investment but high operating cost; (3) Drive system: VVVF variable voltage variable frequency speed control system is recommended, enabling precise control of motor speed (speed accuracy ±0.01m/s). The frequency converter must have regenerative energy feedback capability (optional). During selection, traction machine torque and power calculations should be performed based on parameters such as elevator travel height, speed, load capacity, and operating frequency to ensure full-load starting and braking requirements are met.

Control System and Smart Function Configuration

The elevator control system is the "brain" of the elevator, determining the elevator's operating logic and function expansion capability. Selection points: (1) Control system architecture: Distributed serial communication system is recommended (main controller + car controller + each floor call controller), using CAN bus or RS485/Ethernet communication. The main controller adopts a 32-bit or 64-bit processor with a processing speed of no less than 100MIPS; (2) Group control system: More than 4 elevators must be equipped with a group control system, and destination dispatch (DDS) + AI group control algorithm is recommended. The group controller can manage up to 8 elevators; (3) Function configuration: Standard configuration includes fault self-diagnosis, remote monitoring, emergency leveling (automatic leveling and door opening at the nearest floor upon power failure), and five-party intercom (car - machine room - duty room - monitoring center - mobile APP); (4) Optional functions: Facial recognition, voice control, mobile APP elevator calling, hotel PMS integration (room card access management). The control system software functions should support OTA upgrades to facilitate the addition of new functions. The complete control system must pass electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing and type test certification.

Elevator Decoration and Car Configuration

Elevator car decoration is a direct reflection of the hotel brand image. Decoration selection should be unified with the hotel's overall design style. Recommended configuration: (1) Car wall panels: Hairline stainless steel (304, 1.5mm thick) or mirror stainless steel (with etched patterns) is recommended for five-star hotels; powder-coated steel plates (environmentally friendly powder coating) are recommended for economy hotels; (2) Car floor: Natural marble (20mm thick, such as White Magnolia, Gold Coffee) or homogeneous tiles (12mm thick) with anti-slip treatment is recommended; (3) Car ceiling: LED indirect lighting (color temperature 2700-4000K adjustable) + decorative suspended ceiling (mirror or perforated aluminum panel) is recommended; (4) Control panel: 10-15 inch touch display (replacing traditional buttons) + emergency call button + Braille signage is recommended; (5) Handrails: Stainless steel handrails (40mm diameter) on the rear wall and both side walls of the car; (6) Car door: Same material as the car wall panels, center-opening automatic door is recommended (opening time 1.5-3.5s adjustable). Decoration works must pay attention to weight control (total weight not exceeding 5% of the car rated load) to avoid affecting elevator performance and safety.

Elevator Brand Evaluation and Selection Strategy

Elevator brand selection should comprehensively consider technical strength, market share, after-sales service network, and full life-cycle cost. Comparison of mainstream brands: (1) Otis (USA): Global industry leader with a complete product line; the GEARLESS series has a high market share in the medium- and high-speed elevator market, with a maintenance network covering the entire country; (2) KONE (Finland): Leading in machine-room-less elevator technology; the MonoSpace series leads global sales, and its disc motor technology is unique; (3) Schindler (Switzerland): The group possesses leading destination dispatch technology (Port Technology), with mature high-speed elevator (8-10m/s) technology; (4) Mitsubishi (Japan): Known for precision and reliability; the DOAS system has excellent energy efficiency, and its high-speed elevator (up to 20.5m/s) technology is first-class. Selection strategy recommendations: (1) Ultra-luxury/luxury hotels → International first-tier brands (Mitsubishi/Otis/KONE); (2) Five-star hotels → International first-tier or joint venture brands (KONE/Schindler/Shanghai Mitsubishi); (3) Four-star and below → Joint venture or domestic first-tier brands (Shanghai Mitsubishi/Hitachi/Guangri/Kangli); (4) For multiple brands, consider inviting 2-3 suppliers for price comparison, but the same hotel group is advised to unify the brand for ease of maintenance management. Suppliers should be required to provide a full-package maintenance plan of at least 5 years (including all parts replacement).
