Traction system optimization: permanent magnet synchronous technology

The permanent magnet synchronous traction machine (PMSM) is the mainstream technology for elevator drive systems. Compared with the traditional asynchronous motor + worm gear reducer solution, it offers the following advantages: (1) Transmission efficiency: PMSM direct drive (no gearbox) achieves 92%-95% efficiency, while worm gear transmission efficiency is only 75%-85%; (2) Size and weight: PMSM is 30%-50% smaller in volume and 20%-40% lighter in weight, and can be installed inside the hoistway (machine-room-less elevators); (3) Noise and vibration: PMSM operates at low noise (less than 55dB) and requires no periodic replacement of gearbox lubricating oil; (4) Control precision: PMSM adopts vector control technology, with smoother start/stop performance than asynchronous motors. Selection points: select a matching PM traction machine according to elevator load capacity and speed; rated torque and power must meet full-load starting requirements. The machine-room-less elevator solution (traction machine installed on guide rails at the top of the hoistway) can save about 15-25m2 of machine room area per unit, which for hotel buildings equates to additional saleable area.

Application of regenerative energy technology

Elevators undergo significant potential energy changes during operation (counterweighted elevators), generating substantial regenerative electrical energy during braking. Regenerative energy inverters feed this energy back to the grid rather than dissipating it in braking resistors, achieving significant energy savings. Technical points: (1) When the elevator travels upward with a heavy load or downward with a light load, the traction machine is in motoring mode (consuming electrical energy); when traveling downward with a heavy load or upward with a light load, the traction machine is in generating mode (producing electrical energy); (2) The regenerative energy inverter converts the AC power in generating mode into AC power at the same frequency and phase as the grid and feeds it back to the grid; (3) Feedback efficiency can reach over 95%. Depending on elevator operating conditions, the energy-saving rate of regenerative technology is typically 15%-30% (the greater the travel height and the higher the operating frequency, the more pronounced the energy savings). Notes for installing regenerative energy inverters: check the power quality of the distribution system (harmonic content, power factor) and confirm that the grid can accept the fed-back energy; the inverter must be equipped with harmonic filtering devices (meeting the IEEE 519 standard).

Operation strategy optimization: time-based scheduling and sleep mode

Hotel elevator energy consumption can be significantly reduced through operation strategy optimization. Optimization strategies: (1) Time-based operation: dynamically adjust the number of operating elevators according to occupancy rate and usage demand. During peak periods (breakfast 7:00-9:00, conference entry times), all elevators operate; during off-peak periods (10:00-16:00), the number of operating elevators is automatically increased or decreased according to the number of waiting passengers; during low periods (midnight 0:00-6:00), reduce to 2-3 operating elevators. The destination dispatch system can identify idle elevators and automatically switch them to sleep mode. (2) Sleep mode: idle elevators (no use for 3-5 minutes) automatically turn off car lighting (retaining emergency lighting), turn off ventilation fans and displays, and the traction machine and inverter enter standby. Wake-up time does not exceed 3 seconds (without affecting normal use). (3) Intelligent dispatch: based on crowd density in each building area, park idle elevators in advance at high-demand floors (e.g., park at the restaurant floor in advance during breakfast hours, park at guest room floors in advance during check-out hours). Operation strategy optimization can reduce total elevator system energy consumption by 20%-35%.

In-car environment optimization and intelligent interaction

The elevator car environment directly affects the guest riding experience. Optimization directions: (1) Air environment: equip the car with an air purification system (HEPA filter + activated carbon filtration), with PM2.5 filtration efficiency above 99%, combined with an anion generator to keep the air fresh. Car air changes not less than 10 times/h. (2) Lighting comfort: use adjustable color temperature LED luminaires (3000-5000K adaptive), automatically adjusted according to time of day (warm 3000K in early morning, cool 4500K during the day, warm 3000K at night). Car illuminance not less than 150lx. (3) Interaction interface: equip a high-definition touchscreen (12-15 inches) displaying floor information, weather forecasts, and hotel announcements, supporting voice interaction (voice control of destination floors). (4) Accessible interaction: buttons and touchscreens support Braille and voice navigation; the car is equipped with an emergency call button (with video call function). The intelligent interaction system should interface with the hotel PMS and guest room control system to enable linked elevator-guest room services (e.g., guests can reserve the elevator from their rooms).
